Hi, I’m Lisa Sarasohn, owner of Hire Order, Inc. and a Certified Professional Organizer. Welcome to my blog. I have spent the last 10 years playing archaeologist, detective and therapist as I’ve helped around 400 clients sift through their Stuff. In our search for what items have meaning and value, I help my clients shape a space and a life that is more peaceful, harmonious, convenient and productive.
I have the best job.
After a few sporadic attempts at newsletters, I decided to blog to stay in closer and more frequent touch with you. It is my goal to provide real value/content to my readers. I’ll be posting:
- informative articles on various aspects of organizing
- thoughts on the psychology of clutter
- reviews of useful services, products and books
- insights and organizing ideas I’ve learned from my clients (because you are my best teachers)
- statistics related to organizing and the costs of disorganization
- recycling updates and other “green” tips and information
YOUR FEEDBACK IS ESSENTIAL. I look forward to your comments, questions, and suggestions for future postings. Please post your answers to the following quickie survey below in the “Send a Reply” box and receive $50 off your next session:
- What was your greatest benefit from working with a professional organizer? Examples: an immediate tangible result (like being able to park a car in your garage), a positive mental change within you, or a long term benefit.
- What do you wish your organizer could have done for you that didn’t happen? What additional services do you wish your organizer would provide?
- Have you been successful in adopting new habits and routines to maintain your Stuff? Provide an example if you’re willing.
- Is there an area where you continue to get stuck or relapse? Can you share it?

Having an appointment to get it done.
Additional services, personal “assistant - concierge” To do list creater - with follow up.
Some - red folders for important pending bills and paper to do’s
Stuck - piles of papers, areas full of junk.
Good luck with your “blog”. You’re doing a great job!
Had it not been for working with a professional organizer (Lisa Sarasohn to be specific), my closet would still be overflowing with shoes and outworn clothing, my garage would be a complete cave filled with boxes and giveaways, and my kitchen cabinets would be crammed with enough coffee cups to open a Starbucks. Lisa is professional and confident. She knows exactly what needs to stay and what needs to go. Plus, it was super easy to maintain. Thank you, thank you!
Congratulations on starting your blog — great idea. As someone who hasn’t taken the plunge of getting professional organizing I can’t really provide answers to your questions but I do have some ideas on possible blog topics.
Physical limitations and getting [and staying] clutter-free
Getting rid of stuff isn’t always the answer, how to keep stuff from coming in the door
Just because you have space for it doesn’t mean you should keep it
How to tackle that rented storage space and get over ‘out of sight out of mind’
#1 Immediate results and a caring confident manner. She gently pushed me to keep moving and get things out.
#2 Nothing that I can think of except waving a magic want and having it done.
#3 My attitude has changed. I feel it can be done.
#4 I still can’t function well in the chaos and tend to want to ignore those spaces instead of moving in and working.
I have never worked with a professional organizer, but sure could use one! My method of “organizing” is to cram everything in one room, closet, or shove it to one end of the desk thinking I’ll get it to it some day and “some day” rarely comes.
I think better and am more productive when things are organized, so its obvious the “stuff” is a metaphor for my state of mind.
I have also been known to throw out one or two important items belonging to my husband - not good.
My new office really needed someone to look at my systems (or lack thereof) and make suggestions that I had not even thought of. My legal sized folders were a waste because I did not have legal sized papers going in there. By taking out a pair of scissors and cutting the files –which I was at first horrified by — allowed me to arrange files in a completely different way that took up less space.
I like the idea of the assistant concierge and remote follow up on systems and to dos.
I’m better at tracking my to dos. Recommending that I convert to an electronic planner has been so helpful.
My in box is always overflowing and my assistant has to dig through it to get papers and other priority items that are covered up.
1. Having something done at the end of the day. It was thrilling to actually have it done.
2. My “donatables” sat around longer than I wanted. We should have immediately taken then to Goodwill.
3. While staying motivated has been a challenge, I now know it can be done and have continued my “baby steps”.
Thanks for everything you did.
#1 Immediate benefits of organizing included, but were not limited to: being able to correctly identify the shade of carpet under the mess, rediscovering all sorts of treasure that I didn’t know I had, losing mountains of crap I knew I had but didn’t want and needed someone to help me get rid of, and doing the mental equivalent of the Beyonce cayenne pepper and syrup cleanse diet. I felt light on my feet and just generally clearer and happier!
#2 Surprise inspections (a few months after the big clean) might be good incentive to keep up the systems and good work!
#3 Yes, in all sorts of ways. I take it one drawer at a time. I may have a mess all over the counters, but the drawers are pretty well organized and sorted. Always. And my pantry can now sometimes get so organized I creep out my friends with Sleeping with the Enemy overtones.
#4 I’m still really lazy about doing filing, although I generally am now able to locate what I need with much shorter searches. My studio is still a work in progress, and may always be, but I am working toward the principles I learned with you. Can’t wait to work with you again (you know I always have SOMETHING that can be organized!)
1. Tangible results (immediate). Making a great friend.
2. Give me a magic wand so I could keep things up. Or maybe a few extra hours in the day. (I know these aren’t serious answers…but i don’t really know what else you could’ve done!)
3.Some, but mostly I am incorrigible. My office supplies have tended to stay much better organized. Maybe if I didn’t have kids I’d be marginally better about keeping up with the other things.
4. Handling paper and filing. Cleaning out my closets and keeping them neat. Not so much that I can’t do it, but that I won’t unless someone sits with me and makes me do it.
Это интересно. Подскажите, где мне узнать больше об этом?…
